FAQ

What is Bad Art Friend magazine?

Bad Art Friend magazine is a literary journal focused on celebrating writing and art that creates conversations, challenges expectations, and asks questions.

Is this based on that article?

Not really, but in the spirit of the article it could, by some, be considered a jumping off point. Bad Art Friend magazine will speak to the current literary culture where discourse is its own zeitgeist.

What should be submitted?

Though the name may invite it, we are not seeking vengeful writing; i.e. no shitposts for the sake of shitposting. However, we are seeking short fiction, poetry, essays, interviews, reviews, and art that examines what it means to be a Bad Art Friend. This is a wide net but contributors are welcome to interpret it however they want. We want work which deconstructs and reassembles itself at will. Break the phrase down, focus on each word, the meaning behind them. What do they mean? Bad. Art. Friend.

Is there payment for accepted pieces?

As a completely independent venture, at this time contributors should not expect payment. We are actively exploring options to change this.

S U B M I T

FICTION: Make it hurt, then make it heal. Or don't. Whatever you do, do it more than anyone else. Hard, soft. Thrilling, boring. Whatever is it, use your voice to tell some kind of truth that nonfiction cannot contain.

Send one story up to 3000 words, or up to three stories of 1000 words or less.

POETRY: Express the art of language by distilling your words into pure feeling. Discover the emotions that so often remains hidden behind fiction and nonfiction stories.

Send any number of pieces, but no more than five pages of poetry.

NONFICTION: The fantasy of fiction can be dangerous in the wrong hands. People put their head so far into the clouds they forget the world around them. Make them remember what is beautiful, what is horrible. Nonfiction may comprise traditional essays or creative nonfiction.

Send one piece up to 3000 words or up to three of 1000 words or less.

INTERVIEWS / REVIEWS: Bad Art Friend magazine found inspiration in the discourse created by an article which drove itself into the heart of the literary scene. Send us the next knife, the next lightning rod.

Reviews may be 500 words or less; interviews should be queried.

ART: Tell a story through hue and grain, canvas and color. What can words not capture? Where do they fail? Where do you succeed?

Art may submitted as links or a total attachment size of 25mb.
